Bulimia nervosa, or bulimia, is an eating disorder where a person has episodes of eating a lot of food in a short time (called bingeing), then tries to get rid of the food in unhealthy ways.
Bulimia nervosa can include:
- Making themselves throw up
- Using laxatives or other medicines
- Not eating
- Exercising too much to avoid gaining weight
Bingeing means eating much more food than normal in less than two hours. These episodes happen at least twice a week for three months, and sometimes even more often.
