Volunteer Services

Making a difference for kids, families and staff every day.

Volunteers play a vital role across Children’s Wisconsin. We have volunteer roles at our hospitals in Milwaukee and the Fox Valley. You can also find opportunities at some clinics and specialty programs.

Most volunteer roles focus on providing comfort and support for families, visitors and staff at the bedside and beyond. This includes greeting visitors, helping in the Gift Shop and guiding families in the Daniel M. Soref Family Resource Center. We also have a Therapy Dog Program, where certified handlers and their dogs bring comfort to those in our care.

Volunteer Information

Volunteering at Children’s Wisconsin is a meaningful commitment.

To ensure the best experience for you and the families we serve, we ask volunteers to:

  • Commit to a regular in-person volunteer shift
  • Volunteer for at least six months
  • Complete annual training requirements
  • Be self-motivated and able to work with limited supervision after training

Some roles may have a waiting list, while others can begin right away.

All volunteers complete a simple onboarding process to help them feel prepared and ensure the safety of our patients.

This includes:

  • Interview to find the right schedule and role
  • Background check
  • Virtual Children’s Wisconsin volunteer orientation
  • Role-specific orientation and shadowing an experienced volunteer
  • Proof of immunity for MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) and varicella (chickenpox)
  • Proof of flu vaccination
  • QuantiFERON TB IGRA blood test
  • Annual safety and HIPAA training
